Alice Leavern Yates was born July 21, 1928, in Cisco, Texas. Her parents were John Yates and Elsie Ruth Weir.
Alice grew up in Hamilton, Texas, with her brothers, John Dale and Bobbie Lee. In 1947, at the age of 19, Alice married Billy Charles Croker.
Daughters, Genitha J. and Billie Charlene, were born to Alice before she divorced Billy Charles in 1951. In 1952, she married Jerry Lewis Schief. A daughter, Jerry Lynn, and a son, John Louis, were born to this marriage. In 1966, she and Billy Charles remarried in Corpus Christie, Texas.
Alice lived in Belton, Corpus Christie and Hamilton, Texas; Seattle, Washington; Los Angeles, California; and in Oregon, Bahrain, and England. She traveled to Scotland, Holland, London and Mexico.
The love of her life, Billy Charles, died in 2007. Her daughter, Jerrie Lynn, died in 2004, her son, John Louis, died in 2008, and daugther, Billie Charlene, died in 2020.
Alice Leavern Yates Croker of Belton, Texas, died November 28, 2023, in Baylor Scott and White Hospital, Temple, Texas. Her ashes were to spread on Billy Charles’ grave. They are together once again.
